Cooperation with ETI strengthens availability of reliable track transformers
Within the rail infrastructure sector, the availability of critical components is essential. This is especially true for track transformers, which play a direct role in train protection systems and therefore contribute to safe and reliable train detection. To ensure this availability, we have worked closely with ETI Electrotechnische Industrie for many years.
Essential role in train protection systems
Track transformers, also known as track coils, are an important part of track circuits and train protection systems. At the insulated joint (ES joint), the track transformer allows direct current to pass through while at the same time ensuring that the detection signal remains limited to the relevant track section. This enables the train protection system to accurately determine the location of a train.
Very high currents can flow through the track coil, generating significant heat. It is therefore a component that must operate reliably under all circumstances. This places high demands on both design and production.
Precisely because track transformers fulfil a safety-critical role and must function reliably for decades, quality, craftsmanship and availability are essential. This forms the foundation of our collaboration with ETI.
Cooperation based on expertise
ETI is a specialised manufacturing company with more than 65 years of experience in the development and production of transformers and other electrotechnical solutions. Within this broad expertise, they also manufacture track transformers for rail infrastructure applications, with a strong focus on long service life and high-quality execution.
For components of this type, it is important that production and availability are closely aligned. "We understand what is happening in the market and where the demand lies. By keeping the right quantities of products in stock at our facility in Hilversum, we increase availability for customers. What also stands out to me is the craftsmanship at ETI. On the shop floor, you can see that employees are skilled professionals who take pride in what they produce," says Milko Goedhart, Strategic Purchaser at voestalpine.
Within this partnership, we are responsible for inventory management and logistics handling. This applies to both planned projects and disruptions, where rapid delivery is crucial. For customers, this means a single point of contact. From enquiry to delivery, we manage the entire process.
Quality as a starting point
At ETI, the focus is entirely on quality and reliability. In addition, the company operates in accordance with applicable standards and certifications within the railway sector. This means that both the production process and the finished products demonstrably comply with strict requirements regarding safety and reliability. "We supply safety-critical components that are expected to last 40 to 50 years. That means we carry out inspections throughout the entire production process. Even a small detail, such as a screw that has not been tightened correctly, can have consequences," says Pedro Wiggers, Managing Director at ETI.
Ensuring continuity together
Through this cooperation, we combine two strengths: ETI’s high-quality manufacturing capabilities and our role in inventory management, logistics and customer support. "Ultimately, it is about having the material available when it is needed. That is what we ensure," says Milko. The result is short communication lines and the assurance that maintenance and project activities can continue while disruptions can be resolved quickly. Would you like more information?
